Leadership
In the Episcopal tradition, leadership is the shared responsibility of both clergy and the members of the congregation. The word episcopal means bishop, so the people in every diocese, or geographical region of the church, have a bishop who has pastoral, administrative, and programmatic oversight. Our bishop in western Washington is the Right Reverend Greg Rickel.
Each congregation has a rector, called by the congregation, who is the bishop’s representative and serves as the spiritual leader of the community. Our rector is the Rev. Hunt Priest, who works closely with 12 elected members of the congregation (the Vestry) and a great staff to support, encourage and empower the people of Emmanuel in our ministry.

Vestry | a vestry is a leadership group of 12 members elected by the congregation for 3-year terms to make decisions on policy, oversee the finances, and work with the Rector and staff to support and encourage the spiritual growth of all our members. Like the rector, the vestry has specific areas of responsibility. At Emmanuel, the vestry is divided into three working groups, each supporting the wider ministry and mission of the congregation.
