NEW! Lectio Divina “Holy Reading” of Scripture: This Lent adults in the congregation are invited to join one of four groups meeting weekly for an hour each of the five weeks of Lent. (Feb 29/March 1 through the end of March.) We’ll practice Lectio Divina, a slow, contemplative reading and praying of the Scripture. No preparation required – just the commitment to attend five once-a-week, hour-long gatherings during Lent. There are two sessions on Wednesdays (2-3 p.m. and 6:30-7:30 p.m.) and two on Thursdays (6:45-7:45 a.m. and 5-6 p.m.). If there’s an opening on your calendar during those times, consider it an invitation from the Spirit. You need only bring yourself. Time set aside in a special way for lectio divina enables us to discover in our daily life an underlying spiritual rhythm and what God might be calling us to. Within this rhythm, we discover an increasing ability to be open to the movement the Spirit in our lives. Here’s the electronic signup sheet.

NEW! From the Community of the Lamb:

  • Meditation and the Apostle Paul:  Selected themes from the letters of Paul related to meditation. Mondays, 10-11:30 a.m.
  • Meditation and the Gospel of John: An ongoing group: Each session includes 45 minutes of silent meditation followed by shared reflection on a passage from John. Newcomers may join the class at any point. Tuesdays, 7-9 p.m.
  • The Prayer of the Lamb basic introductory course: A good place to begin this meditation practice. We meet weekly in the Fellowship Hall at Covenant Shores Retirement Center on Thursdays, 10 a.m.-12 Noon.

EmMANuel: Men’s Conversation & Barbecue: Who are you in the world? What do you hope to give and what do you hope to receive? The men of Emmanuel are invited to a conversation around what it means to be men in this world and what it means to be men of faith on March 10 from 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at Emmanuel Church. In particular, we’ll ponder together how we can more carefully “locate” ourselves in the world in light of our families, careers, and the liturgy; and we’ll ponder how to live our lives with intention despite the barrage of demands and commitments that can define our lives. Please RSVP by March 3 to Tom Ryan: tom@emmanuelmi.org or 206-604-0362.

Baptismal Living, Baptismal Ethics: The Forty Days of Lent call Christians to reflect on our fundamental identity as a baptismal people committed to the life of this world. St Paul’s Episcopal Church is offering a workshop with Gordon Lathrop, internationally known scholar, pastor, and speaker on Christian liturgy and daily life, who will reflect with us on the mystery and mission of baptismal living within a highly secularized regional culture. This workshop is on March 10 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at St. Paul’s (15 Roy Street, Seattle 98109). The cost is $25 ($10 for students) and includes lunch, refreshments, printed materials, and childcare. To register, send an email by Saturday, March 3, to stephenshaver@gmail.com: include your name, congregation, and hometown. Bring your registration fee (cash or check only) with you on March 10. For more info, contact Hunt Priest: hunt@emmanuelmi.org, or Mary Maxon: mtnmary@sprynet.com.
